Matthew Arizaga | Sacramento County Main Jail
A South Sacramento murder suspect who fled to Las Vegas after allegedly shooting a man dead inside a Motel 6 lobby has been arrested, extradited, and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail. Matthew Nehemiah Arizaga, 22, faces a murder charge in the June 9th death of Mei’Khi Anthone Blackshire, 21, at the Motel 6 in the 7400 block of Elsie Avenue in unincorporated South Sacramento. As a licensed California Private Investigator with over 25 years of experience and 10 years as a Sacramento police officer, I covered this shooting the night it happened — and now the manhunt is over.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Motel 6 on Elsie Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting inside the lobby. When they arrived, they found Blackshire suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire immediately rendered aid — but it wasn’t enough. Blackshire was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office later made the official identification.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives worked the scene, pulled surveillance footage from inside the lobby, and canvassed witnesses. They had a suspect identified — Matthew Arizaga — by the end of that same day. But Arizaga was already gone.

Arizaga fled California and headed to Las Vegas, Nevada following the shooting. Sacramento County Sheriff’s homicide detectives coordinated with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and on June 15th — six days after the shooting — Arizaga was taken into custody in Las Vegas. He has since been extradited back to Sacramento County and is currently booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a murder charge, held without bail.
The case now moves to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. As of this report, no additional suspects have been publicly named. I’ll continue following this case as it moves through the court system.
