Del Paso Boulevard Homicide: Man Stabbed to Death at North Sacramento Mobile Home Park, Citrus Heights Suspect Arrested on Scene

A 26-year-old Sacramento man is dead and a Citrus Heights suspect is locked up with no possibility of bail following a fatal stabbing on the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at a senior mobile home community on Del Paso Boulevard in North Sacramento. Sacramento Police responded just before 11:00 AM to the 900 block of Del Paso Boulevard and arrived to find the suspect still on scene.

What Happened on Del Paso Boulevard

At approximately 10:53 AM, Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a stabbing call in the 900 block of Del Paso Boulevard — the location of North Sacramento Mobile Home Park, a 55-and-over residential community tucked at the end of historic Del Paso Boulevard. Officers located an adult male victim suffering from at least one stab wound. Sacramento Fire Department personnel rendered aid on scene, but the victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as William Thomas Costanzo, 26, of Sacramento. Costanzo’s connection to the 55-and-over community — whether as a visitor or otherwise — has not been disclosed by investigators.

Suspect Arrested on Scene — Multiple Aliases Revealed

Unlike many homicide cases where suspects flee before officers arrive, this suspect was still on scene when Sacramento Police pulled up. He was detained immediately. The suspect has been identified as James Clifford Dougherty, 46, of Citrus Heights, booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on June 3, 2026 at 12:00 AM on a charge of PC 187(A) — Murder, a Felony. He is ineligible for bail.

As a licensed private investigator, I pulled the court records on Sacramento Superior Court case number 26FE010616 and found something significant — Dougherty is known by four names. Court records list the following aliases:

• James Clifford Dougherty
• James Clifford Bartolo
• James Clifford Bertolo
• Jim Bertolo

Multiple aliases are a significant red flag in any investigation. In my 25 years as a licensed private investigator, that kind of identity trail typically points to someone with a history of not wanting to be found.

Upcoming Court Dates — Bail Review Scheduled

According to Sacramento Superior Court records, Dougherty has two hearings scheduled for June 18, 2026 at 8:30 AM in Department 62:

• Bail Review — Someone is pushing to get this man bail on a PC 187 murder charge. That hearing alone is worth watching closely.
• Settlement Conference

The Questions That Remain Unanswered

Sacramento Police have not released a motive or the relationship between Dougherty and Costanzo. As a former police officer with 10 years on the job and a licensed PI, here is what I am focused on as this investigation continues:

• What is the relationship between James Dougherty and William Costanzo? Did they know each other?
• What was a 26-year-old doing at a 55-and-over community at 11 in the morning on a Wednesday?
• Was Dougherty a resident of North Sacramento Mobile Home Park, or was he a visitor?
• What is the significance of the four aliases in Dougherty’s court record?
